Marion L. Henstrand 9. 23.1924 – 9.3.2022

Marion L. Henstrand, 97, died peacefully in Moraga, Calif., Sept. 3, 2022.  She was born in Minneapolis Sept. 23, 1924, daughter of the late Merl and Eva Houston. 

After the end of WII she was working for a shipping company in Adak, Alaska, where she met Verle C. Henstrand. They were married in 1952 in San Francisco. Mr. Henstrand died in 1989. 

She was the sister of the late William Houston and Audrey Gulachek.

She and her husband settled in Alamo, Calif., in 1963. Verle worked for more than 25 years at Diablo Valley College, where he retired as the Dean of Students in 1983.  Marion worked at Capwell’s, later Macy’s, in Walnut Creek for several decades. She was a member of St. Isidore’s Church.

She was well known in her community and enjoyed traveling with her husband. She leaves a legacy of kindness and friendship with all she encountered.

Survivors include her children, Ann Henstrand (Steve Broadie), of Searsmont, Maine, and John Henstrand (Diana Honig) of Orinda, Calif.; grandchildren Maximilian Garay, Toby Henstrand, and Kyla Henstrand; and numerous and beloved nieces and nephews. She was also greatly loved and cherished by her longtime neighbors Sue and Marc Connelly and their daughters Hannah Connelly and Lauren Hood.

A memorial Mass will be held Sept. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Isidore’s Church in Danville, Calif., with a reception to follow.
