We are sad to report the passing of former employee Sandy Williams on October 27 due to a stroke. Sandy worked at DVC for 34 years in numerous secretarial positions on both Pleasant Hill and San Ramon campuses supporting deans, divisions, the library, and the San Ramon Director. She also served on the Classified Senate as secretary. The following is from her family:
Sandy was born in Auburn, New York on November 26, 1945. Her family was from Kansas, where she lived until she was 12. Her family moved to California in 1959. Sandy graduated from Mt. Diablo High with honors in 1963. She spent one year at Sacramento State College studying Business Administration and received her A.A. Degree from DVC in 1979. Sandy was hired at DVC in August 1964 in the Secretarial Center. She spent 13 years as Administrative Secretary to the Dean of Instruction, Technical/Vocational Education. As Prop 13 hit, campus administration reorganized, and Sandy spent the next 13 years as Secretary to the Director of Library Services and then 7 years as Secretary to the Director of CHE. Sandy worked at the college for a total of 34 years, retiring July 1, 1998.
She and her husband, Ken, had been married 59 years. Her funeral will be held at Holy Spirit Episcopal Church, 2925 Bonifacio Street, Concord, on Saturday, November 9 at 11 a.m.
